This is a Springbank single malt, chosen and bottled by Caskshare, a 30 year old from 1993, drawn from cask 164 and bottled at 49.4%. A release of 144 bottles. A family distillery since 1828, Springbank is a byword for traditional Scotch whisky making. The whole process, malting included, is carried out by hand on the one site.

The spirit was given the part triple distillation unique to Springbank, and slowly worm tub cooled. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, lending vanilla and honey. Decades leave it waxy and oxidative, candied fruit and brine with great depth. Refill oak lets the distillery character lead, all oily weight and coastal salt. Today just three distilleries survive in the old Kintyre whisky town. The maritime warehouses by the sea lend the malt its briny, oily depth. A 1940s Porteus mill and an open iron mash tun are part of the old setup. The Mitchell family has held the distillery for five generations.

Bottled at a cask strength 49.4%, it is rich. Oily orchard fruit, salt and a wisp of peat ride on a vanilla and toffee sweetness. The mouthfeel is oily, the fruit carried on a salty body. The finish runs deep, briny and warm. This is the flagship malt of old Campbeltown.
