Description
This official Springbank single malt, aged 35 year old and bottled at 46%. Springbank, founded in 1828 in Campbeltown, is campbeltown's most revered surviving distillery. Bottles are released in small batches, often through ballots to meet the demand.
This was distilled the Springbank way, two and a half times from floor malted barley, the vapour cooled in worm tubs. Ex-Bourbon casks held the spirit, soft oak that lets the make lead. Decades leave it waxy and oxidative, candied fruit and brine with great depth. Everything is done on site, the spirit going from still to cask to bottle in Campbeltown. The open larch washbacks are a rare survival in modern Scotch. The distillery has become a place of pilgrimage for whisky enthusiasts. Kintyre's damp, mild climate suits a long and gentle maturation. The old town of Campbeltown once rivalled Speyside as Scotland's whisky heart. Quality and tradition, not volume, have always been the watchwords here.
At 46% it is smooth and oily. An oily, maritime character with light peat are layered with vanilla, honey and coconut. Soft fruit and brine sit behind the cask sweetness. The close is rich, fruit over a saline depth. This is a revered Campbeltown single malt.
