Springbank Rundlets & Kilderkins 11 Years Old 2001

An official Springbank single malt matured to 11 year old from 2001 and bottled at 49.4%. Just 9000 bottles were filled. Springbank has distilled in Campbeltown since 1828, a byword for traditional Scotch whisky making. The family owner also holds Cadenhead's, the oldest independent bottler in Scotland.

It was made by Springbank's singular two and a half times distillation, with the spirit condensed in worm tubs. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, lending vanilla and honey. Younger here, it keeps a vigorous, briny freshness over the oily body. The hands on, small scale working shapes a spirit of real individuality. Today just three distilleries survive in the old Kintyre whisky town. The maritime warehouses by the sea lend the malt its briny, oily depth. A 1940s Porteus mill and an open iron mash tun are part of the old setup. The Mitchell family has held the distillery for five generations.

Bottled at a cask strength 49.4%, it is rich. A briny, oily depth with a hint of peat ride on vanilla, cream and light coconut. A waxy weight and a saline tang give it real body. The finish runs deep, briny and warm. This is Springbank's rich, oily, maritime style.
