Springbank Vintage for The Nectar Belgium 10 Years Old 2000

This official Springbank single malt matured to 10 year old from 2000, drawn from cask 267-4 and bottled at 47%. 180 bottles in all. Springbank has distilled in Campbeltown since 1828, prized for its rich, oily, hand made spirit. Small output and a cult following keep its bottles allocated and keenly sought.

It was given the part triple distillation unique to Springbank, the vapour cooled in worm tubs. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, the wood adding a light honeyed sweetness. At this age the spirit is vivid and oily, the fruit and salt to the fore. Long maturation suits the heavy, characterful make, the cask knitting slowly with the spirit. Springbank, Longrow and Hazelburn each show a different face of the one distillery. The open larch washbacks are a rare survival in modern Scotch. The distillery has become a place of pilgrimage for whisky enthusiasts. Kintyre's damp, mild climate suits a long and gentle maturation.

At cask strength 47% it is muscular. A coastal, waxy spirit with gentle peat meet a vanilla and toffee sweetness from the cask. Soft fruit and brine sit behind the cask sweetness. It finishes deep, complex and maritime. This is a revered Campbeltown single malt.
