Springbank Private Cask Bottling 23 Years Old 1992 (51.4%)

An official Springbank single malt, a 23 year old Campbeltown malt from 1992, drawn from cask 182 and bottled at 51.4%. A release of 127 bottles. Springbank, distilling since 1828 in Campbeltown, is a byword for traditional Scotch whisky making. The distillery sits in the heart of Campbeltown, near the head of its sea loch.

This was run through the distillery's part triple distillation, the malt floor malted and gently peated, with the spirit condensed in worm tubs. A sherry cask wrapped the oily spirit in dried fruit and a nutty depth. At this age it is rich and complex, the fruit folded into a waxy, briny body. The hands on, small scale working shapes a spirit of real individuality. Quality and tradition, not volume, have always been the watchwords here. The spirit is filled to cask and matured within the distillery walls. Few distilleries keep so much of the old craft alive under one roof.

At a full 51.4% it is bold and oily. A briny, oily depth with a hint of peat ride on dried fruit and a walnut richness. A waxy weight and a saline tang give it real body. A warming, oily finish lingers long. This is Springbank's rich, oily, maritime style.
