Springbank 12 Years Old

This Springbank, an official release, aged 12 year old and bottled at 43%. Springbank has distilled in Campbeltown since 1828, still owned by the Mitchell family, five generations on. The cult around Springbank has made it one of the most collected of all malts.

It was given the part triple distillation unique to Springbank, then condensed through worm tubs. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, with vanilla under the oily fruit. Mid age brings a fuller fruit and a deeper coastal complexity. Coastal warehousing gives the malt its briny, mineral lift. The Mitchell family has held the distillery for five generations. The town and the sea run through every cask of the make. The sea loch at the foot of the town shapes the coastal character of the malt. Demand far outstrips the small output, and bottles are keenly chased. Springbank, Longrow and Hazelburn each show a different face of the one distillery.

At an approachable 43% it is balanced. A coastal, waxy spirit with gentle peat meet a vanilla and toffee sweetness from the cask. A coastal salt and an orchard fruit lift it. It finishes deep, complex and maritime. This is an oily, salty Campbeltown classic.
