Springbank 12 Years Old Cask #Batch 7

This Springbank, an official release matured to 12 year old, drawn from cask Batch 7 and bottled at 50.3%. A release of 9000 bottles. Established in 1828, Springbank is one of the last working distilleries of old Campbeltown. It makes three malts: Springbank, the peated Longrow and the unpeated Hazelburn.

The spirit was given Springbank's unusual two and a half times distillation, then condensed through worm tubs. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, with vanilla under the oily fruit. Mid age brings a fuller fruit and a deeper coastal complexity. Sea air works into the warehouses, lending a saline thread as the whisky breathes. The town and the sea run through every cask of the make. The sea loch at the foot of the town shapes the coastal character of the malt. Demand far outstrips the small output, and bottles are keenly chased. Springbank, Longrow and Hazelburn each show a different face of the one distillery.

At cask strength 50.3% it is muscular. An oily, maritime character with light peat are layered with vanilla, honey and coconut. A coastal salt and an orchard fruit lift it. Sea salt and fruit draw out the close. This is an oily, salty Campbeltown classic.
