Description
An official Springbank single malt, aged 10 year old from 2007 and bottled at 57.3%. Just 9000 bottles were filled. Springbank has distilled in Campbeltown since 1828, famous for doing everything on site, from floor malting to bottling. The distillery sits in the heart of Campbeltown, near the head of its sea loch.
It was made by Springbank's singular two and a half times distillation, with the spirit condensed in worm tubs. A sherry cask wrapped the oily spirit in dried fruit and a nutty depth. At a youthful age the make is lively, salty and full of character. A patient maturation suits the rich, complex Campbeltown spirit. Demand far outstrips the small output, and bottles are keenly chased. Springbank, Longrow and Hazelburn each show a different face of the one distillery. The open larch washbacks are a rare survival in modern Scotch. The distillery has become a place of pilgrimage for whisky enthusiasts.
At a hearty 57.3% it carries real weight. Brine, wax and a light peat note sit over raisin, fig and a vanilla sweetness. A waxy weight and a saline tang give it real body. The finish runs deep, briny and warm. This is Springbank's rich, oily, maritime style.
