A distillery bottling of Longrow and bottled at 57.9%. A family distillery since 1828, Springbank is a byword for traditional Scotch whisky making. Campbeltown was its own protected whisky region long before the revival.

The spirit was distilled twice from barley floor malted and peated hard, and slowly worm tub cooled. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, gentle American oak beneath the spirit. Carrying no age, it leans on an oily weight and a coastal complexity. The hands on, small scale working shapes a spirit of real individuality. A 1940s Porteus mill and an open iron mash tun are part of the old setup. The Mitchell family has held the distillery for five generations. The town and the sea run through every cask of the make. The sea loch at the foot of the town shapes the coastal character of the malt. Demand far outstrips the small output, and bottles are keenly chased.

At 57.9%, undiluted, it is deep and powerful. A robust peat reek over brine ride on creamy vanilla and oak sweetness. It is rich and layered, the fruit and salt well matched. Salt and oily fruit see out a long finish. This is Longrow, the heavily peated Campbeltown malt.
