Description
A distillery bottling of Longrow matured to 12 year old from 1998, drawn from cask 341 and bottled at 52%. A release of 268 bottles. Springbank has distilled in Campbeltown since 1828, famous for doing everything on site, from floor malting to bottling. Campbeltown was its own protected whisky region long before the revival.
It was distilled twice from barley floor malted and peated hard, and slowly worm tub cooled. A wine cask held it, layering berry fruit over the coastal malt. Mid age brings a fuller fruit and a deeper coastal complexity. A patient maturation suits the rich, complex Campbeltown spirit. Quality and tradition, not volume, have always been the watchwords here. The spirit is filled to cask and matured within the distillery walls. Few distilleries keep so much of the old craft alive under one roof. Campbeltown was once the whisky capital of the world, with more than thirty distilleries at its peak.
Bottled at a cask strength 52%, it is rich. A tarry, maritime smoke sit over raisin and a caramelised nuttiness. It is rich and layered, the fruit and salt well matched. The finish runs deep, briny and warm. This is the peated face of Campbeltown.
