Description
A distillery bottling of Longrow, an 18 year old release and bottled at 46%. Springbank has distilled in Campbeltown since 1828, a family distillery that malts and bottles every drop on site. The distillery sits in the heart of Campbeltown, near the head of its sea loch.
It was drawn off two distillations of heavily peated malt, with the spirit condensed in worm tubs. A sherry cask wrapped the oily spirit in dried fruit and a nutty depth. Around the mid teens the malt gains depth while keeping its oily salt. The slow loss of the angel's share concentrates the oily, complex core over time. Demand far outstrips the small output, and bottles are keenly chased. Springbank, Longrow and Hazelburn each show a different face of the one distillery. The open larch washbacks are a rare survival in modern Scotch. The distillery has become a place of pilgrimage for whisky enthusiasts. Kintyre's damp, mild climate suits a long and gentle maturation.
Bottled at 46%, it is rounded. A sherried dried fruit and nuts meets a tarry, maritime smoke. A waxy weight and a saline tang give it real body. The finish runs deep, briny and warm. This is Springbank's heavily peated Longrow.
