Description
A distillery bottling of Longrow, aged 18 year old and bottled at 46%. Only 4800 bottles were released. A family distillery since 1828, Springbank is a byword for traditional Scotch whisky making. The family owner also holds Cadenhead's, the oldest independent bottler in Scotland.
The spirit was drawn off two distillations of heavily peated malt, with the spirit condensed in worm tubs. A sherry cask wrapped the oily spirit in dried fruit and a nutty depth. Around the mid teens the malt gains depth while keeping its oily salt. The hands on, small scale working shapes a spirit of real individuality. The Mitchell family has held the distillery for five generations. The town and the sea run through every cask of the make. The sea loch at the foot of the town shapes the coastal character of the malt. Demand far outstrips the small output, and bottles are keenly chased. Springbank, Longrow and Hazelburn each show a different face of the one distillery.
Bottled at 46%, it is rounded. A robust peat reek over brine ride on raisin, fig and a vanilla sweetness. A waxy weight and a saline tang give it real body. Salt and oily fruit see out a long finish. This is Longrow, the heavily peated Campbeltown malt.
