Description
This official Longrow single malt, an 18 year old and bottled at 46%. Springbank is a Campbeltown distillery distilling since 1828, run much as it was a century ago. Uniquely in Scotch, every drop is floor malted, distilled, matured and bottled on the one site.
It was floor malted, peated hard and double distilled for Longrow, and run into cast iron worm tubs. Ex-Sherry wood suited the heavy make, adding a dried fruit richness. By this age the maritime weight rounds into a richer, fuller malt. Years in oak deepen the fruit and the maritime character together. Campbeltown was once the whisky capital of the world, with more than thirty distilleries at its peak. Today just three distilleries survive in the old Kintyre whisky town. The maritime warehouses by the sea lend the malt its briny, oily depth. A 1940s Porteus mill and an open iron mash tun are part of the old setup.
At 46% it is smooth and oily. Dried fruit and a walnut richness from the cask underpins a coastal peat smoke with a briny depth. It is deep and complex, the maritime spirit shining through. A long, oily, coastal finish lingers. This is a robust, smoky Campbeltown whisky.
