Description
A Rosebank single malt, selected and bottled by Liquid Gold Enterprises, aged 11 year old, from 1989, drawn from cask 799 and bottled at 61.9%. Founded by James Rankine in 1840 on the banks of the canal in the central Lowlands, Rosebank was silenced in 1993. After closure the site fell derelict, and thieves even took the copper stills in 2008.
The spirit was run three times through copper pot stills, then cooled in worm tubs, for the refined Lowland style quite its own. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, the classic wood for Rosebank. At a youthful age the florals are lively and the fruit clean. Time in the cask deepens the delicate spirit into honey, tropical fruit and beeswax. Water came from the Carron Valley, feeding a light, ester rich Lowland spirit. The 108 foot chimney remained a Falkirk landmark through the long silent decades. Its final vintages of the early 1990s are among the most sought after of all Lowland malts.
At cask strength 61.9% it is full bodied. A delicate floral, waxy depth sit alongside soft vanilla and honey from the cask. It is clean and elegant, the grassy spirit shining through. It finishes clean, fragrant and bright. This is spirit from the lost years of Rosebank, finite for good.
