This Old Pulteney, an official release, matured to 16 year old, from 2006, drawn from cask 1927 and bottled at 53.8%. Just 246 bottles were filled. Opened in 1826 in Pulteneytown on Scotland's far northern shore, Pulteney is the maritime malt of the far north. It is one of the last urban distilleries, set among the streets of Pulteneytown.

The spirit was drawn off the flat topped wash still and boil ball spirit still that give the make its body, and matured by the shore, where sea air works into the wood. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, gentle American oak beneath the brine. Mid age brings a fuller honey and a deeper maritime note. The cool, damp northern climate slows maturation, letting the spirit take wood gently over many years. Inver House has built its single malt range around the distillery since 1995. The honeyed, waxy core is the signature of the maritime malt of the far north. Robert Cumming reopened the silent distillery in 1951 as demand for whisky returned.

At cask strength 53.8% it is muscular and oily. A coastal salinity meet soft vanilla from the cask. Soft brine and orchard fruit sit behind the sweetness. It finishes clean, salty and bright. This is Old Pulteney's classic maritime character.
