InchDairnie KinGlassie – Double Matured 8 Years Old 2017

KinGlassie is InchDairnie's official peated single malt, made with Fife barley at the Glenrothes distillery that began running in 2015. This release was distilled in 2017 and bottled in 2025 at 8 years old, in the KinGlassie - Double Matured series. It was released for Europe.

The Fife distillery runs one of only two mash filters in Scotch production and distils through a custom Lomond Hill still, a pot still with six bubble cap plates in its neck for high reflux. Peated malt gives this one a smoky backbone the unpeated Strathenry side lacks. Matured in ex-Bourbon casks with a finish in an Amontillado sherry cask.

Bottled at 46.3%, with natural colour and without chill filtration, the ex-Bourbon wood gives vanillin for vanilla and oak lactones for coconut, with maltol for a light toffee sweetness, and the Amontillado wood leans nutty and savoury, hazelnut and dried apricot, drier than an Oloroso. The peat phenols, guaiacol chief among them, read as smoke, with a faint medicinal lift. Recorded bottle notes run to honey. Youthful underneath, the smoke lengthens the finish and keeps it dry.
