Ardbeg 15 Years Old 2006

A Swedish market exclusive Ardbeg from the 2006 distillation cohort, released through the Distillery Single Cask programme. Sweden's specialist whisky retail, channelled through Systembolaget's premium tier and private order programmes, has been a consistent partner for Ardbeg single cask releases since the early Glenmorangie era, with country exclusive bottlings appearing regularly.

Matured on Islay for fifteen years from 2006 under LVMH owned Glenmorangie. Bottled in 2022 at 58.6% ABV, non chill filtered with no added colour. The 58.6% reading after fifteen years sits at the very top of expected natural strength for a refill bourbon cask in the maritime climate, suggesting an unusually tightly sealed cask and a cooler warehouse position where ethanol attrition runs slower than the warehouse average.

Fifteen years of American oak maturation at high retained ABV intensifies extraction compound expression: oak lactones (cis and trans isomers of beta methyl gamma octalactone) read sharply as coconut and oiled wood, while hemicellulose furans deliver caramel and toasted almond. Modern Ardbeg peat phenols (guaiacol, syringol, 4 methylguaiacol, p cresol) carry through at full intensity, classic Ardbeg phenolic smoke. The Ardbeg purifier ester signature delivers concentrated pineapple, lemon and tropical fruit beneath the integrated phenolic core, distinctively sharper at this higher cask strength than at typical 53 to 56% siblings.
