A Swedish market single cask drawn from hogshead #868, one of a small number of 1972 vintage barrels released individually under Glenmorangie ownership. The single cask programme began with the Provenance series in 1997 using 1974 stock and extended through the early 2000s into earlier vintages as the inventory audit completed. Each release identified the cask number and the destination market, giving collectors a paper trail back to a specific barrel.

Filled into a refill American oak hogshead in 1972 during Hiram Walker's tenure and bottled in 2004 at thirty two years, natural strength 48.5% ABV, without chill filtration or added colour. The 1972 distillate pre dates the 1977 changes in peating regime, when Ardbeg briefly used Port Ellen Maltings barley before returning to the floor maltings, so the phenol profile reflects the distillery's own kilning at typical 50 ppm levels.

Refill bourbon hogsheads at 250 litre capacity have higher liquid to wood ratio than first fill, slowing oak extraction and letting the spirit character carry. Over thirty two years the cis and trans oak lactones build to coconut and polished oak, while the Ardbeg purifier signature delivers concentrated ester fruit (pineapple, lemon oil, ripe melon). The peat reads as ash and earth rather than fresh smoke, the result of phenolic oxidation and gradual conversion to ester form across three decades on Islay.
