Description
Provenance is the youngest single cask line in Douglas Laing's post 2013 portfolio, providing a release format for casks too young for the Old Particular target range. Bottled in distinctive labelling that has remained consistent across many years of releases, Provenance has become one of the most recognisable young indie single cask programmes in the Scotch single malt category. This DL 15393 release sits in the standard Provenance line drawing on 2013 distilled Arran stock.
Maturation ran eight years in a single cask at Lochranza before transfer to Douglas Laing for bottling. The cask wood is consistent with the Provenance template, typically a refill American oak hogshead. Bottled at 46% without chill filtration and without added colour.
At eight years the Arran new make character is the dominant flavour driver, with the Bourbon cask contributing vanillin, whisky lactones and the toasted sugar layer characteristic of moderate American oak extraction. The 46% bottling strength preserves the textural weight from the unfiltered fatty acid ester load. The Provenance presentation strips the focus back to the spirit and cask without the added layers of finishing or vatting complexity.
