Arran 15 Years Old 1997 Cask #LD 9902 (Douglas of Drumlanrig)

Douglas of Drumlanrig is one of the brands Hunter Laing retained from the original Douglas Laing portfolio at the 2013 family split. The brand takes its name from Drumlanrig Castle, the historic seat of the Dukes of Buccleuch in Dumfries and Galloway, and presents single cask single malt whiskies under a distinctive label design. The LD cask reference prefix identifies the Drumlanrig cask numbering, with cask LD 9902 sitting within the working inventory of Hunter Laing's continuing operations. This release captures Arran from the 1997 distillation year.

Spirit was distilled at Lochranza in 1997 and matured fifteen years in a single cask before bottling by Hunter Laing under the Douglas of Drumlanrig brand. The cask wood type is consistent with the broader Hunter Laing template of refill American oak hogsheads or first fill barrels selected for individual character. Bottled without chill filtration and without added colour.

Fifteen years of Bourbon cask maturation produces well integrated cask and spirit layering, with vanillin, whisky lactones and the developing oxidative cask compounds sitting in balance with the underlying Arran fresh fruit and citric signature. The 1997 vintage captures the distillery in its third full production year, sitting within the documentary inventory of early Arran releases that successive indie bottlers have used to track the distillery's house style development.
