Description
The Arran Malt and Music Festival is the distillery's annual summer event held at Lochranza, combining whisky tastings, distillery activities and live music against the distillery and Loch Ranza setting. Each year the distillery releases a specific festival bottling tied to that year's event, with the bottling typically drawn from a single cask selected by master distiller James MacTaggart. The 2013 festival bottling used Oloroso cask 1997 519 from the 1997 vintage at sixteen years old.
Spirit was distilled at Lochranza in 1997 and matured sixteen years in a single Oloroso seasoned cask. Bottled in 2013 at 50.2% without chill filtration and without added colour, with the 232 bottle outturn reflecting the working yield of the single cask.
Sixteen years of Oloroso cask maturation produces deep sherry compound integration, with sotolon, furfural and the oxidised polyphenol fraction from the original wine ageing well developed alongside the underlying Arran spirit signature from the 1997 distillation year. The festival bottling format presents the integrated single cask character as a documentary record of the year's release programme, with the specific cask selection reflecting master distiller curation.
