Arran 15 Years Old 1997 Cask #935 (Ian Macleod)

Ian Macleod Distillers is a family owned Scotch whisky company based in Broxburn near Edinburgh, founded by Leonard Russell Senior in 1933. The company owns Glengoyne, Tamdhu and Rosebank distilleries and operates several independent bottler brands including Chieftain's, Smokehead, Sheep Dip and Six Isles. Chieftain's is the company's single cask single malt programme, running across multiple decades of releases under consistent branding. This Arran release draws on cask 935 from the distillery's 1997 vintage stock.

Spirit was distilled at Lochranza in 1997, the third full production year at the revived Arran distillery, and matured fifteen years in a single cask before being shipped to Ian Macleod for bottling. The cask wood type is consistent with the Chieftain's template, typically refill or first fill American oak depending on the specific release. Bottled without chill filtration and without added colour.

Fifteen years of cask maturation produces meaningful integration of the wood derived compounds with the spirit signature, with vanillin, whisky lactones and the oxidative cask compounds layering against the underlying Arran citric and fresh fruit profile. Single cask presentation preserves the specific intensity of the individual parcel without the averaging effect of vatting. The 1997 vintage captures the distillery in its third full year of operation, with documented house signature consistency across casks of this period.
