Description
This Old Particular release draws on Arran spirit distilled during 1997, the year the Lochranza distillery's visitor centre was officially opened on 9 August by Queen Elizabeth II, with two casks presented to her for Princes William and Harry. The distillery's third full year of production saw output volumes continuing to scale from the inaugural year levels. Old Particular cask DL 11089 represents one specific parcel of that 1997 distillation taken to nineteen years of maturation before bottling.
Spirit was matured at Lochranza for nineteen years in a single cask, with the wood type for this cask reference being a refill American oak hogshead consistent with the broader Old Particular template for Arran releases of this vintage band. Bottled at 51.5% with no chill filtration and no added colouring.
At 48.4% the long chain fatty acid esters remain in solution without filtration, preserving the textural weight typical of unfiltered cask strength reduced single malts. Nineteen years in refill Bourbon wood produces a measured extraction profile where the underlying Arran spirit signature remains forward, with cask vanillin, whisky lactones and toasted oak sugars layered on top rather than dominating. Spirit from the 1997 vintage carries the consistent Lochranza house signature of citric, vanilla and stone fruit ester development.
