Description
Signatory Vintage's Single Cask Seasons is a quarterly series presenting single casks selected to match a seasonal release window, the Autumn 2022 edition drawing this Glenrothes from its Edradour warehoused stocks. The series sits parallel to the firm's Cask Strength Collection but with a more accessible price point and broader availability. This Glenrothes 11 Years Old, distilled in 2011 and bottled in 2022 from cask number 1 at 51.7%, runs to a generous 803 bottles for the event market.
Eleven years in a single Oloroso butt sits in the productive middle window for sherry maturation, with the cask's first fill activity well developed and the European oak tannin not yet overwhelming. The cask's residual oxidised sherry penetrates the spirit fully, while lignin breakdown delivers vanillin and syringaldehyde and hemicellulose chemistry contributes furfural and caramelised sugar precursors. The 51.7% strength reflects a softer cask environment, with the spirit and wood in balance rather than tension.
The nose lifts dark chocolate and dried fruit with sherried sweetness threading underneath, a cooked vegetable note adding savoury depth and honey balancing the fruit. The palate moves through fig, raisin and fresh apple, with 51.7% strength delivering balance without harshness. Cocoa nib bitterness emerges mid palate. The finish runs long and gently tannic, the European oak's grip framing rather than dominating the spirit's Speyside fruit.
