The Elgin firm has bottled Scotch independently since 1895 and runs Connoisseurs Choice as one of the longest unbroken indie programmes in the trade, dating from 1968. This Glenrothes 16 Years Old, distilled in 2006 and bottled in 2022 from cask 18601303 at 53.3%, runs to 328 bottles for European markets.

Sixteen years in a refill bourbon cask produces a measured American oak signature, with the cask's first fill activity softened by previous tenancy and the wood contributing through gradual extraction. Lignin's breakdown delivers vanillin and syringaldehyde at attenuated levels, lactones produce coconut and creamy oak through long contact, and ellagitannins build structure without the heavier tannic load European oak would deliver. The 53.3% strength sits comfortably, leaving room for the spirit's natural Speyside ester chemistry to lead.

The nose carries honeyed barley with vanilla, fresh apple and faint coconut, the cask's softer second life contribution clearly framing the spirit. The palate moves through cooked pear, lemon curd and gentle oak spice, with 53.3% strength delivering balance without harshness. A faint toasted oak note threads through mid palate. The finish is medium long and softly drying, the cask handing off without depleting the spirit's natural character.
