The Whisky Jury is a Belgian and Dutch independent bottler founded around 2018, presenting single casks under direct cask number rather than themed series. This Glenrothes 25 Years Old, distilled in 1997 and bottled in 2023 at 55% from cask gr-1997-1, runs to 233 bottles for the German market. The unusual cask reference reflects the firm's informal naming approach rather than a distillery filling code.

Twenty five years in refill bourbon hogsheads produces a long extractive profile dominated by slow incremental wood contribution rather than aggressive first fill activity. By this point in maturation lignin's breakdown has delivered syringaldehyde and vanillin in steady amounts, hemicellulose chemistry has built furfural and caramelised sugar precursors, and lactones have produced coconut and creamy oak through cumulative contact. The spirit's natural Speyside ester chemistry remains clearly at the front rather than being subsumed by active wood.

The nose carries hay barn warmth and dried grass alongside fresh apple, with a coal gas note that signals deep oxidative ageing somewhere in the cask's history. The palate runs through honey, lemon curd and a citric edge, the 55% strength delivering balance without harshness. The finish is long and softly drying, with the cask's diminished tannin signature leaving the spirit's preserved acidity and Speyside fruit clearly framed.
