Duncan Taylor's Single Cask label is the firm's main programme alongside the Octave finishing range, presenting individually selected bourbon and sherry casks at natural strength. The Aberdeen based bottler has operated since 2002 in its current form, building a deep cask inventory through merchant trading. This Glenrothes 10 Years Old was filled in 2013 and bottled in 2024 at 53.6%, with 819 bottles drawn from the cask for European markets.

A decade in a refill bourbon hogshead develops the American oak signature at a measured pace, with most of the cask's first fill vanillin already extracted by a prior tenant. The slower extraction allows the spirit's natural Speyside ester chemistry to lead rather than being subsumed by active wood. Vanillin and syringaldehyde from gradual lignin breakdown layer alongside lactones producing coconut and creamy oak, while ellagitannins build structure without the heavier tannic load European oak would deliver.

The nose lifts honeyed barley with vanilla, white peach and faint coconut, the cask's softer second life contribution clearly framing rather than dominating. The palate moves through cooked apple, lemon curd and toasted oak, the 53.6% strength giving the bourbon cask room without scorching the spirit. The finish runs medium with a gentle oak grip, the cask handing off its character without depleting the spirit's natural Speyside fruit.
