Description
Sebastian Zuccardi, third generation of the Argentine family winery, makes this Torrontes from vineyards high in the Uco Valley in the foothills of the Andes in Mendoza. Torrontes is Argentina's most aromatic native white, and altitude is central to it here: the high, sun drenched sites have intense daytime light but very cold nights, and that wide diurnal range locks in the floral aromatics and keeps fresh acidity in a warm, dry climate. The wine is raised for six months in stainless steel, a neutral reductive vessel that protects the delicate perfume and keeps the style clean and primary, with no oak to mask the grape. The result is a wine that leads with aroma but stays dry and crisp on the palate rather than soft or blowsy. It pours pale lemon. The nose is markedly perfumed, rose and white flowers with white peach, elderflower and citrus peel. The palate is dry and fresh, stone fruit and melon carried on bright acidity, finishing with a light citrus bite. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees.
