Zuccardi grow this Chardonnay high in the Uco Valley of Mendoza, in Argentina. At altitude the nights are cold, which keeps the fruit fresh. Rested on its lees, it shows white peach, lemon and green apple, with a crisp, mineral finish.

Description
Zuccardi is one of Argentina's leading producers, and this Chardonnay comes from the Uco Valley, high in the Andean foothills of Mendoza. Altitude is the key to the site: the vineyards sit well above the valley floor, where intense mountain sunlight is balanced by very cold nights, and that wide daily temperature swing slows ripening and preserves the wine's fresh acidity. The soils are poor and stony, with alluvial gravels and patches of limestone that drain freely and give the wine a clear mineral character. The dry, high desert climate keeps the fruit clean and healthy. Rather than lean on oak, this wine is rested on its fine lees, which adds a subtle creaminess and texture while keeping the focus on fruit and place. In the glass it is pale straw, showing white peach, lemon, green apple and pear, with a fresh floral note. The palate is bright and dry, with a stony, mineral edge and a crisp, clean finish. This is Chardonnay in a fresh, high altitude style rather than a rich one. Serve well chilled at 9 to 11 degrees.
