This Ron Bicentenario comes from Zhumir, an Ecuadorian distillery, and is among the longer aged rums from that origin, an eighteen year old molasses spirit matured in ex-bourbon oak. Bottled at a gentle 40%, a rum of this age is built for mellow, smooth sipping rather than intensity. Whether the ageing ran warm at origin or cooler shapes how deep the oak reads, but at eighteen years expect well integrated barrel character, soft vanilla, caramel and dried fruit with a rounded, easygoing finish. A quietly mature pour from a less familiar South American producer, made to be enjoyed neat or over a single cube.
