A Martinique agricole blanc at 42%, fresh and fruity with honey-tinged cane, white pepper and florals up front and a dry, vegetal palate, finishing on sugarcane, citrus and a saline iodine edge.
Description
Zaka is a Martinique agricole blanc made from fresh-pressed sugar cane juice and bottled at 42%, presenting the island's cane juice in a soft, fruit-forward style. As a blanc it is unaged, leaning on the freshness of the spirit itself rather than any cask influence.
Distilled on column in the agricole tradition, it noses on fruit, white pepper, honey and a faint alcoholic lift, with a palate that turns dry, peppery and floral with a clear agricole grassiness, and a finish of sugarcane, wood, citrus and a gentle iodine note. There is a ripe, candied, lightly honeyed cane character softened by lime peel, which gives it an approachable roundness, though it reads leaner and less full than the better-known Martinique whites. At a modest strength it stays easy. A pleasant, fresh blanc for everyday neat sipping or a straightforward Ti Punch where its cane and citrus can lead.
