Description
Yuu Baal Mezcal Añejo Espadín is produced in San Juan del Río, Oaxaca, under the direction of mezcalero Isaías Martínez Juan, as part of the Yuu Baal network of traditional producers. The mezcal is made from Agave angustifolia (Espadín), the most widely cultivated agave species in Oaxaca, valued for its consistency and ability to carry both smoke and oak influence.
Following traditional pit roasting, fermentation and double distillation in copper pot stills, the mezcal is aged for 12 months in American white oak barrels, giving it its natural golden colour and layered flavour profile. The ageing softens the smoke and integrates the agave character with notes drawn from the wood, without pushing the spirit into heavy barrel dominance.
On the nose and palate, this Añejo shows wood, caramel and brown sugar, alongside dried fruit, gentle smoke, pepper and cooked agave. The oak adds structure and warmth, while the underlying mezcal character remains clearly present. This is a measured, well-balanced aged mezcal that works both as a sipping spirit and as an accessible introduction to barrel-aged mezcal styles.
