Yoyo makes La Tranchée in the Languedoc-Roussillon from very old Grenache vines farmed organically and worked by horse. A natural, easy-drinking red, it is fresh and perfumed, with red cherry, raspberry and a peppery, herbal lift.
Description
Yoyo, the project of Laurence Manya-Krief, makes La Tranchée in the Languedoc-Roussillon from monovarietal Grenache. After a career in fashion she moved into wine and now farms very old Grenache and Carignan vines, some over a hundred years old, organically since 2005 and worked by hand with horse or mule. The warm Mediterranean climate of Roussillon ripens Grenache easily, while old, low-yielding bush vines on poor soils concentrate the fruit and the coastal influence keeps the wine fresh. This is a natural wine, fermented with minimal intervention to make a medium-strength, easy-drinking red. With no barrel ageing, the wine stays bright, direct and fruit-led, showing the grape and the place without oak. The colour is bright medium ruby. The nose is perfumed, with red cherry, raspberry and plum over crushed pepper, dried herbs and a floral note. The palate is light to medium bodied, fresh and supple, with soft tannin and a savoury, lightly grippy finish. Serve at 14 to 16 degrees, lightly chilled. It suits charcuterie, pork, poultry and mushroom dishes.
