Description
Yoichi Nikka 1991 Cask 129493 is a single cask single malt from Nikka's Yoichi distillery in Hokkaido, distilled in 1991 and bottled in 2007 at 16 years of age. Released specifically to the Italian market at cask strength, it is one of the distillery's export single cask bottlings that showcased the Yoichi house character to European audiences in the mid-2000s.
Matured in an Ex-Bourbon oak cask, the 16 year period in Hokkaido's cool maritime climate builds the classic Yoichi profile: peat smoke, firm malt, a salted coastal quality and an oily, almost waxy texture from the coal-fired pot stills. At 62% the spirit is full-throated, with the depth of wood integration that comes from over a decade and a half in a single barrel.
