Description
Yoichi 23 Years Old 1989 is a single cask single malt from Nikka's Yoichi distillery in Hokkaido, distilled in 1989 and bottled in 2012 at 23 years of age for the Italian market. It belongs to a series of long-aged single cask Yoichi expressions released across European markets in the 2010s, offering individual barrel selections at ages well beyond the standard range.
Twenty-three years in an Ex-Bourbon cask in Hokkaido's cold, humid maritime environment develops the Yoichi house character toward deep baked fruit, dried leather and warm spice, with the coal-fired distillation's smokiness softened but still present as a coastal, slightly saline undercurrent. At 60% cask strength, the spirit is concentrated and full-textured, an undiluted reading of Yoichi at a mature and contemplative age.
