Description
Yoichi 20 Years Old is a single malt from Nikka's Yoichi distillery in Hokkaido, bottled at cask strength from Ex-Bourbon oak casks after 20 years of maturation. A standard distillery release rather than an individual cask selection, it draws on a marriage of Ex-Bourbon barrels to present Yoichi's mature profile in an accessible format without the variability of single cask bottlings.
Twenty years in Ex-Bourbon oak in Hokkaido's cold, damp maritime environment builds a spirit of considerable weight and integration, with baked orchard fruit, vanilla and leather in the foreground and the distillery's coal-fired peat smoke and coastal brine as a persistent undercurrent. Bottled at cask strength 52%, this is a fuller, more concentrated version of the Yoichi 20 profile, retaining the oily texture and maritime character that define the house at its longer ages.
