Description
Yoichi 20 Years Old 1987 is a single malt from Nikka's Yoichi distillery in Hokkaido, distilled in 1987 and bottled in 2007, distinguished from the bourbon cask 1987 vintage by its maturation in Oloroso sherry casks. Sherry wood is a recurring presence in the Yoichi range, appearing here at the most extended level, where 20 years of contact with the Oloroso has deeply shaped the spirit's direction.
The sherry casks contribute rich dried fruit, walnut and dark chocolate alongside the warmth of 20 years in wood, while Yoichi's coal-fired direct distillation maintains the underlying smokiness and oily coastal weight that no amount of sherry maturation fully obscures. Bottled at cask strength 55% for global markets, this is a full-bodied, sherry-led expression of the Yoichi distillery at a significant age.
