Description
Yoichi 10 Years Old is a single malt from Nikka's Yoichi distillery, situated on the Sea of Japan coast of Hokkaido, the site founder Masataka Taketsuru selected in 1934 for its resemblance to Scotland. The distillery's coal-fired direct distillation, rare in the modern era, produces a spirit of particular weight and oiliness that sets the Yoichi style apart across all its age statements.
A decade in Ex-Bourbon casks gives the typical Yoichi 10 its backbone of vanilla and baked fruit alongside the house's characteristic peat smoke and firm malt. The Hokkaido coastal climate adds a briny undercurrent throughout the maturation, and the 45% bottling strength preserves the spirit's texture, making this the foundational expression of the Yoichi range.
