Yamazakura Asaka The First is a single malt from Sasanokawa Shuzo's Asaka distillery in Fukushima prefecture, bottled in 2019 to mark the distillery's first release of its own-distilled spirit. The Asaka site opened in 2016 and this 3 Years Old expression represents the first distillate to reach the minimum legal maturation age, making it a genuine milestone release for one of Fukushima's most historic whisky producers.
Matured in Ex-Bourbon casks, the spirit carries the vivid, fresh character that young single malt often shows: cereal sweetness, light vanilla and a lively new-make energy that the cask has begun to shape but not yet softened completely. Bottled at cask strength, it offers a direct encounter with the distillery's character at its earliest point. For those following the Asaka story, this inaugural bottling is a record of where the distillery began.
