Description
Yamazakura Asaka Peated Cask #19152 is a single-cask, cask-strength bottling from Sasanokawa Shuzo's Asaka distillery in Fukushima prefecture. Distilled from peated malt in 2019 and bottled in 2023 at four years old, it is one of a series of event releases that demonstrate how Asaka's peated distillate matures alongside the distillery's unpeated single malt programme.
The maturation is in Ex-Bourbon oak, which softens and sweetens the peat rather than amplifying it: vanilla and dried orchard fruit from the barrel work in counterpoint to the smoke, a development pattern typical of Asaka's peated casks. At 63.5% ABV and an event-only release, the bottling rewards dilution to reveal the interplay between Fukushima peat character and four years of American oak influence.
