Yamazakura Asaka 2017 Cask #17128 and #17130 is a dual-cask, cask-strength release from Sasanokawa Shuzo's Asaka distillery in Fukushima prefecture. Distilled in 2017 and bottled in 2022 at five years old, the expression spans the crucial early maturation window that marks the transition from new make to mature single malt at this young craft site.
Both casks are Ex-Bourbon, so the wood programme is consistent: vanilla, caramel and soft tropical fruit from the barrel complement the clean, fruit-forward distillate that is typical of Asaka's house character. Bottled at 62% ABV and released as an event bottling, this is a limited release that demonstrates what five years of Fukushima maturation yields when drawn directly from the barrel.
