Yamazakura 16 Years Old (LMDW) is a blended whisky from Sasanokawa Shuzo in Fukushima prefecture, selected by La Maison du Whisky and bottled in 2016 for an event release at 40%. The involvement of the respected French specialist importer points to a curation that sought out a specific character within the Yamazakura range.
Drawn from Ex-Bourbon casks over sixteen years, the bottling shows a citric freshness and a coal-gas mineral quality that suggests the blend carries some grain component with distinct character of its own. The bourbon wood contributes vanilla softness as a base, while the citrus and mineral notes give the palate definition. At 40% it is light and composed, a measured expression selected with the European palate in mind.
