Description
Yamazaki 10 Years Old is an earlier core expression of Suntory's single malt, distilled at Japan's first malt distillery in the valley of Shimamoto, Osaka Prefecture, in a release bottled for Europe. Opened in 1923, Yamazaki shaped the way the world came to read Japanese single malt, and this ten year old offers the house style at a moderate age.
Matured in Ex-Bourbon wood, the whisky takes its sweetness from American oak. Fresh orchard fruit and vanilla sit at the front, a gentle malt note carries underneath, and at 40% the texture stays soft and rounded. It is an accessible Yamazaki, lighter and more direct than the older sherried bottlings, and a clear window onto the distillery's balanced, fruit led character at an earlier point in maturation.
