Description
A no age statement single malt from Yamazaki, Japan's first malt whisky distillery, founded by Suntory in 1923 in the Shimamoto valley of Osaka Prefecture where the Katsura, Uji and Kizu rivers meet. Soft humidity aids the long, even maturation that underpins the layered house style. Bottled in 2013 for the Japanese market, this release is presented at a full 48%.
Matured in ex-Bourbon oak, the cask type that typically frames the lighter, fruit forward side of the house. Expect vanilla, honey and ripe orchard fruit with a clean, gently spiced oak running through, the higher strength adding texture and length on the palate. The result is rounded and balanced, true to the soft, layered character that defines Yamazaki at the heart of its range and has made the distillery a benchmark for Japanese single malt.
