Description
Yamazaki Peated is a no age statement single malt from Suntory's distillery in Shimamoto, Osaka Prefecture, set where the Katsura, Uji and Kizu rivers meet beneath humid air. Released in 2020, it is an uncommon turn for a distillery known for elegance over smoke, placing lightly peated spirit at the centre of the house character.
Matured in ex-bourbon casks, it lets a soft bonfire smoke drift over the distillery's orchard fruit and vanilla, the American oak keeping the base clean so the peat reads clearly. The smoke stays gentle rather than heavy, leaving the malt's fruit intact beneath. Bottled at cask strength 48%, it is warming and well balanced, a smoky variation on the house spirit that still feels recognisably Yamazaki.
