Yamazaki Mizunara is a no age statement single malt from Suntory's distillery in Shimamoto, Osaka Prefecture, set in the valley where the Katsura, Uji and Kizu rivers meet under humid air. This 2022 release is devoted entirely to mizunara, the Japanese oak that has become the distillery's calling card and a true signature of Japanese whisky.
Full maturation in mizunara oak casks delivers the wood's hallmark sandalwood, incense and temple wood notes, here brightened by a citric edge over the distillery's ripe orchard fruit and vanilla. The porous, slow giving oak lends a deep aromatic lift that no other wood matches. Bottled at cask strength 48%, it is concentrated and perfumed, the clearest statement of what mizunara brings to the house spirit.
