Description
Yamazaki Mizunara is a no age statement single malt from Suntory's distillery in the valley of Shimamoto, Osaka Prefecture, where soft humidity and the meeting of three rivers shape the maturing spirit. Bottled in 2012, this release is given over wholly to mizunara, the Japanese oak that defines the distillery's signature and remains hard to coopered and slow to give.
Full maturation in mizunara casks brings the wood's sandalwood, incense and temple wood character, joined here by a distinctive mineral, coal gas edge over the distillery's orchard fruit and vanilla. The porous Japanese oak lends a depth and fragrance unique to the wood. Bottled at cask strength 48%, it is intense and aromatic, an early showcase of mizunara matured Yamazaki.
