Description
Yamazaki Bourbon Barrel is a no age statement single malt from Suntory's distillery in Shimamoto, Osaka Prefecture, set in the valley where the Katsura, Uji and Kizu rivers meet. Bottled in 2013, it is part of the cask specific series in which Japan's first malt distillery isolates a single wood type to show how each shapes the spirit.
Full maturation in ex-bourbon barrels gives the brightest and most direct face of the distillery, with vanilla, coconut and soft baking spice lifting the house orchard fruit. There is no sherry or wine to cloud it, so the malt itself comes forward clean and sweet. Bottled at cask strength 48%, it keeps a fresh, lively edge, a clear window onto how American oak treats Yamazaki spirit.
