Description
Yamazaki Bordeaux is a no age statement single malt from Suntory's distillery in the valley of Shimamoto, Osaka Prefecture, where soft humidity and the meeting of three rivers shape the house style. Released in 2020, it belongs to the wine cask side of the distillery's limited work, where unusual woods are used to recolour the familiar orchard fruit and vanilla profile.
Maturation in Bordeaux red wine casks brings bright red berry, plum and a dusting of dark chocolate over the distillery's ripe orchard fruit and soft vanilla. Bottled at cask strength 48%, it carries more grip and concentration than the standard releases, the wine influence woven through rather than sitting on top. The effect is vivid and fruit forward, a recognisably Yamazaki malt seen through a red wine lens.
