Description
This 1991 vintage Yamazaki comes from Suntory's distillery in Osaka Prefecture, Japan's oldest malt site, tucked into the humid Shimamoto valley between Osaka and Kyoto. Bottled in 2004 at 13 Years Old and at cask strength for the Netherlands, it shows the lighter, fruit forward face of the house rather than its sherried side.
The spirit matured in Ex-Bourbon American oak, typically the wood that lets Yamazaki's orchard character shine. At a natural 56% it leads with honey and soft vanilla, a clear note of green apple and pear, and the clean malty backbone the distillery is known for. Bright and gently oaked, it stays approachable for a cask strength malt, finishing on light spice and a touch of fresh barley.
